So overall the model was compatible đồ sộ swap out without having đồ sộ purchase additional parts, but your mileage may vary depending on your current connection and configuration.

The biggest differences between my older 2002 model and this new replacement was how the discharge connects from the disposal đồ sộ the plumbing.

My older model had a discharge that had a THREADED discharge connection, which would allow you đồ sộ use a direct connect PVC screw/push connector đồ sộ seal the plumbing pipe đồ sộ the disposal unit.

The new model, does NOT have a threaded discharge connection at all. Instead, it uses a flat sunken gasket with rubber seal, and provide you with its own elbow pipe đồ sộ connect đồ sộ the disposal.

This difference is huge in regard đồ sộ how the pipes will run rẩy and the height they will run rẩy underneath your sink. If your current Insinkerator has a screw on connection from your plumbing that goes directly into the side of the disposal, you will run rẩy into the same issue I did. The discharge from the newer Insinkerator will now be 3-4 inches LOWER phàn nàn your current plumbing, and it will also be facing downward, and not sideways.

How did I overcome this and use only my existing plumbing?

1) I did NOT use the plastic elbow connection that was provided.
2) I removed a section of my PVC plumbing that was connected đồ sộ the old Insinkerator with the Screw on/Press connection. I took this piece of pipe and after removing the screw on connector, I was left with a flush connection that fit exactly the same as the elbow piece supplied would have fit onto the side. As an extra security, I used a PVC plumbing inside press gasket inside the pipe that attached đồ sộ the disposal unit.

So from left đồ sộ right, I had =====>||===== That is a PVC pipe with flat flush kết thúc, an internal press connection with a bevel tip inserted into that pipe, connected it against the disposals large rubber seal gasket, then screwed the provided metal plate bracket against the PVC pipe and screwed it in securing the PVC pipe đồ sộ the disposal.

There is a second issue as well. If the unit you purchase does not come with a power cord, you will need đồ sộ disconnect the power hard wire from the old unit by removing a metal plate on the bottom. Disconnect the ground, and untwist the 2 wires usually black/white. You will notice that where the wires run rẩy into the bottom of your old unit, there is a security nut with 2 screws that hold the wire in place ví it does not get pulled from the internal connections of the disposal. The NEW unit does NOT come with this security nut.

So when you disconnect the old disposal, you need đồ sộ unscrew the entire security nut from the old unit, it will unscrew. Once you have it out, slip the security nut over top your hard wired power line, ví once you have made the connections inside the new unit, you can then slide the security nut up đồ sộ the base of the new unit, screw it into the base of the disposal, then you can adjust the main wire cord where you want it, then screw in the 2 small security nut screws đồ sộ ensure the main wire does not get pulled from the inside of the disposal.

I have 3 of these in my house. One went bad. Replaced with InSinkErator Badger 5XP Garbage Disposal. Easy đồ sộ install, except trying đồ sộ hold this thing up with one hand while putting unit into place and trying đồ sộ lock it lock in.

Find one number 10 tin yêu can. (DOES NOT HAVE TO BE A PICKLE CAN :) Cut off the top, (TAKE OUT THE PICKLES) put the cord inside the can, place disposal on top and slide into place. Perfect fit, giving you about an 1/8 of an inch wiggle worm đồ sộ work with. Once in the right place, insert the tip of a long flat screw driver under disposal đồ sộ the middle, lift unit up and turn the can. Bingo! Done. Now you can eat the pickles or put them down the drain if you don't lượt thích pickles.

We had a power outage in my area and my disposal’s controlled by an air switch that I mistakenly tried using while the power was out. I went đồ sộ work and the power eventually came back on with the switch engaged and the disposal ran dry until it eventually stopped working. Thank goodness this model has a manual reset button on the bottom. I love the added HP and strength of this model.

I had a builder grade 1/3 HP Insinkerator. It was about 6 years old and decided đồ sộ literally blow a gasket and leak all over the cabinet floor. Water poured from everywhere. This was a really simple replacement and is ví much more powerful. Worth the additional $$ IMHO. 2 things đồ sộ remember. Buy plumber's putty. You will need it đồ sộ attach the flange and seal. And bởi not forget đồ sộ knock out the dishwasher plug if attaching a dishwasher. Yes that it the "I am in a a hurry" voice of experience speaking.

This product is made in such a way that an improper connection đồ sộ the drain seal will leak through the unit as opposed đồ sộ the outside making it seem as though the product is defective. If you find that new unit is leaking out the bottom even though you see water on the outside, make sure you have properly installed and seated the new seal provided with the unit. Do not reuse the seal from old unit, especially if it was a different model number. Also, make sure your old one doesn’t just need a seal replacement if it’s not too old and bottom leaking.

Having a garbage disposal is life changing. I have a finicky mèo who doesn’t always eat her wet mèo food. It was time consuming and took a bit of manual effort đồ sộ rinse the mèo food down the drain. This garbage disposal makes life easier.

Sound level is about the same as a vacuum cleaner. Not horrible but not exactly peace and quiet either.

I have used this primarily đồ sộ get wet mèo food down the drain. It works great. I put a peach pit in the garbage disposal one time and the disposal took care of it. It was really loud and didn’t sound lượt thích the best thing đồ sộ bởi, ví I just throw out peach pits as opposed đồ sộ washing them down the drain.

I found this guide for choosing the right disposal:
1-2 person household : 1/3 or 50% HP disposal
3-6 person household : 50% or 3/4 HP disposal
5-8 person household : 3/4 or 1 HP disposal
8+ person household : 1 or 2 HP disposal

I know that a 1/3 or 50% HP would be fine, but I figured that choosing one with a little more power would be the safest option.
